The Future In Your Hands

The Philippines is a lovely archipelago, with jungles, beautiful mountains and a rich history and culture.

The Philippines also faces a great challenge - feeding the 100,000,000 or so people who live on this lovely Pearl of the Orient.

In October 2016, a hearing was held in The Hague in the Netherlands called the "Monsanto Tribunal", where people railed against the practices against the company of the same name. The hearing concluded that bad things had been done against the people and the environment.

The proceedings had no power and no one will be punished or sanctioned because of it. It is a conclusion some people came to, but no one is going to answer for any eco-crimes. That does not mean there will be no consequences for the farmers or people of the Philippines.

At this point, one would have to be asleep to not be afraid of hybridized seed that depends upon a specific chemical fertilizer to grow a crop. The 'Green Revolution' has resulted in larger crops and millions born who otherwise would not have been. The problem is that such a revolution is not sustainable. At some point we will run out of oil to make these chemical fertilizers and people will starve - resulting in a die-off far greater that might have been avoided had standard varieties of low yield and hearty crops been grown. Sometimes progress is not your friend.

Wealthy spokesmen in the media who defend the 'Green Revolution' will never know hunger by choice and they will not suffer the consequences of bad agricultural practices. What about us?

A few years ago, Nestlé company former CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe said: 'access to water should not be a public right'. If that doesn't scare you, nothing will.

The point of all this is to remind this proud nation that the future is in your hands, to cast it to the winds or grasp and cherish it. A good farmer will build up his soil with sustainable agricultural practices using sustainable organic methods. It is much cheaper, much safer and produces better crops.

The heirloom seeds harvested, saved and reused again and again over hundreds of years is a much safer and dependable procedure to follow than waiting on the GMO pushers. No one cares more about your best interests than you.

There are many good ways to make good soil. Some build up the soil with earthworms. Some compost organic materiel. Others buy sustainable soil. You can do any or all of the above. Whatever you do - it is later than you think. You need to consider this problem today. What about the future? The sooner we prepare for tomorrow, the sooner we can rest easier knowing we did our best for the planet and our children.

The importance of agriculture cannot be overstated. Agriculture provides the energy we need to work, study and play.

Build up the soil around you now. It does not take too long to deplete good soil. Whatever you do, we can help. If Grow Maxx fertilizer is good enough for the farmers in Mindoro, just think what it will do for your garden and flower pot.

Thank you.
